Animal Day

On St Paul’s Pet Day the children brought their pets to school.
After playtime, it was the Animal Parade. First the fluffy bunnies, possum, chickens, mice and budgies went round the court to show off. Some of the animals were running and walking round the court, like the goat, while some of them were in cages.
Next the dogs arrived. My dog was called Wallace.  When Mum arrived, my dark brindle black dog, Wallace, gave me a hi-five while walking slowly with his hips going side to side. Wallace had his tongue hanging out of his mouth because he was warm. “It’s time for the dog parade,” I said. The small dogs went round the court twice. When Wallace was walking round, he sat on some people.
Finally, it was the tricks. There were some talented dogs doing their tricks. It was really noisy when all the dogs big and small were doing their tricks.
When I got home from school I was really tired.

Go, Paige! Yea!

When I was 8 years old, our school had an Athletics Day. We all competed in lots of events, like High Jump, Long Jump, Vortex, Shot Put, Discus and Sprints. It was a warm sunny day. We ran to the courts where all the crunchy yellow leaves were. When all the coloured houses were sitting, they waved their flags on the green tiger-turf courts. Mr K said, "March round the field,’’ so St Ann, the Yellow house, went first, then St Anthony, the Blue house, St Francis, the Green house and St Joseph, the Red House. I was feeling nervous and excited about competing in athletics.

Next, my age group did high jump. We had to jump over the white rod onto the blue mat. Some of us jumped as high as a flying hawk. When I got over, I always said, “Yes I did it!’’ In high jump, Emily G came 1st, I came 2nd and Emily W came 3rd. I was glad I at least came a place.
Finally, we did sprints. There were three starting lines that were on the five green narrow lines 50m, 80m and 100m, but there was only one finish line. Emily W came 1st in the 50, 80 and 100 m races, Emily G came 2nd in the 50, 80 and 100 m races and I came third in the 50, 80 and 100 m races. We, who came first, second and third, are as fast as lightning. When I got a place, I felt that I had done well.

It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home from school that afternoon.
